In order to study the effect of aqua-acupuncture with Morus alba L. extract solution on the pathological findings and plasma β-endorphin level of the gout induced by microcrystal-line sodium urate in rats, the aqua-acupuncture with Morus alba L. extract solution and normal saline was inserted into the corresponding loci of the Pi-Yang(B_58) and Blank locus (non-acupuncture locus at the root of the tail) in rats.
Experimental group was devided into 5 groups; control group, aqua-acupuncture of Morus albs L. group treated on Pi-Yang [Aa-P.Y. (M.a.)] , aqua-acupuncture of normal saline group treated on Pi-Yang [Aa-P.Y. (s)] , aqua-acupuncture of Morus alba L. group treated on Blank locus [Aa-B.L. (M.a.)] , aqua-acupuncture of normal saline group treated on Black locus [Aa-B.L. (s)].
Then metatarsophalangeal joint swelling, white blood cell count, erythrocyte segmentation rate, serum uric acid, serum creatinine, plasma β-endorphin were measured.
Obstained results are as follows:
1. Metatarsophalangeal joint swelling was decreased significantly comparing with those of the control group in case of Aa-P.Y. (M.a.) group. Aa-P.Y. (s) group. Aa-B.L. (M.a.) group.
Especially Aa-P.Y. (M.a.) group showed most remarkable decrease. However, Aa-B.L. (s) group showed not significant decrease.
2. White blood cell count was decreased most significantly comparing with those of the control group in case of Aa-P.Y. (M.a.) group. Aa-B.L. (M.a.) and Aa-P.Y. (s) group showed significant decrease respectively. However, Aa-B.L. (s) group showed not significant decrease.
3. Erythrocyte segmentation rate was decreased most significantly comparing with those of the control group in case of Aa-P.Y. (M.a.) group. Aa-B.L. (M.a.) and Aa-P.Y. (s) group showed significant decrease respectively. However, Aa-B.L. (s) group showed not significant decrease.
4. Serum uric acid was decreased most significantly comparing with those of the control group in case of Aa-P.Y. (M.a.) group. Aa-B.L. (M.a.) and Aa-P.Y. (s) group showed significant decrease respectively. However, Aa-B.L. (s) group showed not significant decrease.
5. Serum creatinine was decreased remarkably comparing with those of the control group in case of Aa-P.Y. (M.a.) group. Other group showed not significant decrease.
6. Plasma β-endorphin was increased significantly comparing with those of the control group in case of Aa-P.Y. (M.a.) group. Other group showed not significant decrease.
According to the above result, it is concluded that aqua-acupuncture with Morus albs L. extract solution was effective on the treatment and analgesic effect of gout induced by microcrystalline sodium urate. And it is suggested that Aqua-acupuncture with Morus alba L. extract solution could be recommended for treatment of gout in clinic. And it is considered that continuous study is necessary.
